Batter Research

Ballpark Pal simulations rely on detailed player inputs. The table below gives access to many of these inputs (and some outputs), which are adjusted to display more user friendly. 0-125 scores are weighted from a "runs created" perspective based on how the various outcomes (HR, Single, Walk, etc) relate to scoring runs. These scores are non-linear to represent how talent is distributed across the league. Average is usually around 40. Scores higher than 100 represent the very top players in the category. All data listed here should be considered a forward-looking view of the player, not necessarily what has occurred in the past.

 FSB: Performance against fastballs (FF, FC, SI)
 BRK: Performance against breaking balls (CU, SL, KC)
 OFF: Performance against offspeed (CH, FS)

Pitch Type
 FF: Performance against 4-seam fastballs
 FC: Performance against cutters
 SI: Performance against sinkers
 CU: Performance against curveballs
 SL: Performance against sliders
 KC: Performance against knuckle-curveballs
 CH: Performance against changeups
 FS: Performance against splitters

In Zone / Out of Zone
 Top: Performance against pitches at the top of the strike zone
 Bot: Performance against pitches at the bottom of the strike zone
 Edg: Performance against pitches on the edge of the strike zone
 LvL: Performance against pitches on the left side of the strike zone (from hitter's perspective), thrown by left-handed pitchers
 MvL: Performance against pitches in the middle of the strike zone, thrown by left-handed pitchers
 RvL: Performance against pitches on the right side of the strike zone (from hitter's perspective), thrown by left-handed pitchers
 LvR: Performance against pitches on the left side of the strike zone (from hitter's perspective), thrown by right-handed pitchers
 MvR: Performance against pitches in the middle of the strike zone, thrown by right-handed pitchers
 RvR: Performance against pitches on the right side of the strike zone (from hitter's perspective), thrown by right-handed pitchers

Count
 0-0: Performance on the first pitch of the at bat
 BEH: Performance when behind in the count
 AHD: Performance when ahead in the count
 2ST: Performance when there are 2 strikes
 3BL: Performance when there are 3 balls
 3-2: Performance when the count is full

Outcome
 Hit: General predicted likelihood of getting a hit during a plate appearance
 1B: General predicted likelihood of getting a single during a plate appearance
 XBH: General predicted likelihood of getting a double or triple during a plate appearance
 HR: General predicted likelihood of hitting a home run during a plate appearance
 BB: General predicted likelihood of drawing a walk during a plate appearance
 SO: General predicted likelihood of striking out during a plate appearance

Hit Type
 Ground: Predicted percentage of hitting a ground ball when put in play
 Line: Predicted percentage of hitting a line drive when put in play
 Fly: Predicted percentage of hitting a fly ball when put in play
 Pop: Predicted percentage of hitting a pop up when put in play

Direction
 Pull: Predicted percentage of balls in play hit to pull side
 Strt: Predicted percentage of balls in play hit to center field
 Oppo: Predicted percentage of balls in play hit to opposite field
 Pull (fly): Predicted percentage of fly balls hit to pull side
 Strt (fly): Predicted percentage of fly balls hit to center field
 Oppo (fly): Predicted percentage of fly balls hit to opposite field

Swing
 vsL: Predicted swing rate vs left-handed pitchers
 vsR: Predicted swing rate vs right-handed pitchers
 FSB: Predicted swing rate vs fastballs
 BRK: Predicted swing rate vs breaking balls
 OFF: Predicted swing rate vs offspeed pitches
 0-0: Predicted swing rate on the first pitch of the at bat
